About The Ragged Robin, Godalming
Opening Tuesday 17th June 2025

Our Story
Tucked away on the edge of the historic market town of Godalming, The Ragged Robin has been lovingly brought back to life with an extensive restoration, ensuring guests feel right at home the moment they step through the door.
With a nod to the Heartwood Inns’ signature warm and welcoming style, we’ve added a spacious dining area that spills out onto a glorious garden overlooking the River Wey.
Whether you’re sipping a craft ale in the sunshine, settling in for a seasonal feast, or relaxing in one of our 19 beautiful bedrooms, we know The Ragged Robin will be your new favourite spot.
Our name, The Ragged Robin, is inspired by the delicate wildflower Lychnis flos-cuculi. With its frilled pink petals, it’s a familiar sight in the damp meadows and riverbanks of the British countryside – a quiet symbol of natural beauty and resilience that reflects the character of the stunning Surrey scenery that surrounds our pub.
The History of The Ragged Robin

Set on Guildford Road in the heart of Farncombe and on the edge of Godalming, our pub with rooms has a rich and varied history stretching back to the 18th century.
Once a working tannery, the building later served as a private residence before being transformed into a hotel in the 1930s.
Godalming itself is an ancient market and coaching town nestled beside the River Wey. Steeped in history, this picturesque town is brimming with charm, where cattle still graze along the lush river banks, and canal boats gently line the banks near the wharf.
Our Pub

Our dedicated Heartwood Inns design team has worked hard to make The Ragged Robin feel like a home from home. Whether you fancy a relaxed lunch or a more formal dinner, the pub has a space for everyone. From intricately poised nooks to open and airy dining.
We take pride in our reputation for serving high-quality, seasonal food alongside meticulously crafted pints, a thoughtfully curated wine selection, and an enticing array of cocktails.
Feel free to bring along your furry friend too… just let us know so we can reserve a table in our dog-friendly area. Rest assured, water and treats are on the house for our beloved canine companions. We can’t wait to welcome you and your four-legged friend to The Ragged Robin soon!
Why not treat yourself to a visit?

Our rooms come in all shapes and sizes – from snug to luxe – with each one carefully designed with comfort and charm in mind.
Think rainfall showers, Bramley toiletries, home-baked sweet treats, Roberts radios, and all the thoughtful little touches that make it feel quintessentially Heartwood.
We even have a dog shower for your muddy four-legged companions.
